A healthy diet can help both our physical and mental wellbeing.
Our brain needs a mix of nutrients to stay healthy and function well.
Recent evidence suggests improving our diet can help to improve our mood and boost our energy.
Jane McClenaghan of Vital Nutrition recommends the following ten eat well tips:
1. Always eat breakfast
Eat a healthy breakfast within 45 minutes of waking to kick start your day.
2. Five a day
Eat five different coloured fruit and veg every day.
3. Drink more water
Get your daily intake of 1 1/2 – 2 litres every day.
4. Swap the sugars
Check your labels – no more that 10–12g sugar per 100g.
5. Watch the Caffeine
Too much caffeine can leave you jittery, shaky and nervous, so cut it down.
6. Pile in the (essential) fats
Stock up on nuts, seeds, avocados, olive oil, oily fish and houmous to get your fill of healthy fats.
7. Eat with the seasons
Locally produced, seasonal food is nutrient packed and tastes great too.
8. Avoid fad diets
A varied healthy diet is the best way to achieve optimum health.
9. Relax more…
…to help digestion, boost your immune system and relieve stress.
10. Exercise more
Just 30 mins, five times a week will boost energy levels, release endorphins and help manage your weight.
“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” ~ Virginia Woolf
